Patrick is an experienced antitrust litigator who has devoted his career to advocating for his clients in front of regulators across the full spectrum of antitrust matters, including civil and criminal conduct investigations, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory filings. Patrick has developed a keen understanding of how to pursue his clients' objectives in engagements with competition authorities in the U.S. and around the world.
Patrick has extensive experience representing parties in investigations and litigation brought by State Attorneys General, the U.S Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, as well as numerous foreign competition authorities. He assists clients responding to Civil Investigative Demands and managing large-scale document productions and complex requests for data. Patrick regularly prepares key witnesses for deposition and trial testimony sought by regulators, such as preparing multiple employees from a national health insurer to testify in a DOJ action challenging anticompetitive conduct by a large healthcare system. Patrick also represented four trial witnesses in the U.S. DOJ’s advertising technology monopolization case against Google. Patrick routinely makes presentations on behalf of his clients to case staff and leadership.
In the context of merger review, Patrick has worked on some of the largest and most high-profile transactions of the last decade, including multiple transactions with valuations over $50 billion. Patrick advises clients contemplating transactions on all stages of the merger review process, from initial antitrust risk analysis to ultimately defending merger challenges in court. Patrick has helped clients negotiate divestiture and consent decree agreements with regulators and has successfully defended a merger challenge brought by the Department of Justice in Federal Court.
Patrick also represents clients in connection with private antitrust litigation, where he has both drafted and opposed complaints alleging anticompetitive conduct and overseen discovery for complex cases. He has also helped clients respond to dozens of subpoenas across a broad range of antitrust cases.
Throughout his career, Patrick has had unique opportunities to represent clients alongside seasoned and respected antitrust practitioners, working closely with multiple former Assistant Attorneys General for the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division and Commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission. Patrick previously worked in the antitrust group at a large international law firm until 2021, when he helped launch Kressin Law Group, now Kressin Powers.
