Ben is an experienced antitrust litigator with over a decade of experience investigating and litigating complex antitrust cases. He represents clients in civil and criminal antitrust litigation matters, including before the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, and State Attorneys General Offices. His first-hand experience of antitrust enforcement as both a criminal prosecutor and a private practitioner gives him a strong vantage point in advising clients on how to navigate complex, multi-regulator investigations before charges are filed and how to litigate effectively when the stakes are highest.
Before joining the firm, Ben was a federal prosecutor for more than seven years. Most recently, Ben served as Acting Assistant Chief of the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division Chicago Office, where he oversaw all of the office's criminal prosecutors and cases. Before that, Ben served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General as Special Assistant to the Director of Criminal Enforcement where he advised senior Antitrust Division leadership on criminal case strategy, charging decisions, and enforcement policy. In these roles, Ben played a key role in many of the Antitrust Division's strategic initiatives, including the creation of the first Antitrust Division Whistleblower Rewards Program. Prior to his leadership roles, Ben investigated and prosecuted antitrust, white-collar, and other federal offenses as a prosecutor in the Antitrust Division and in two United States Attorney's Offices.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Ben represented companies and individuals in government investigations, enforcement actions, and civil litigation at a large international law firm. He began his career by serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Harris L Hartz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
